City Court – We used our new metal detector for the August session of city court. It worked well.

GMA Statistics – The GMA member services advisory council met in Bryon on Thursday. The meeting started with a briefing about GMA and its members cities. Here are some statistics:

  • GMA has 521 member cities out of the 538 cities in the state.
  • 60% of the member cities have less than 2,500 population.
  • 199 of the cities have professional managers; 322 of the cities have a City Clerk but no manager.
  • There are 3,004 elected city officials.

Moore Street water line – We are getting closer to finishing this project. The August invoice was for $74,769.94. After this is paid we will have a balance of $46,781.60 remaining in this $199,994.50 project. If you happen to be driving near the industrial park Sunday, you will see the contractor making the tie-ins to the new line. We felt this would be the day least likely to disrupt the businesses. Jody and the contractor are notifying all the businesses. The work should be done within a couple of hours.

Archives – I checked with State Archives about serving as a depository for our older records – mostly minutes of city council. They only accept municipal records older than 1875. Lauran and I looked at the old minutes that we have stored in a fireproof file cabinet in the City Clerk’s office. Here’s a chart showing what we have. I have made an appointment with the Emory Archivist in a couple of weeks to look at the records that Emory is storing from the Town of Oxford’s past.
